Judy Knight is a Manitoba Marriage Commissioner serving the City of Winnipeg and surrounding areas. She is passionate about what she does and thoroughly enjoys meeting and connecting with new people. A consummate professional, Judy strives to provide all of her clients with a heartfelt and memorable experience that truly reflects who they are as a couple.

Frequently Asked Questions

Select a duly authorized Marriage Commissioner with whom you feel comfortable to officiate your wedding, as soon as possible. It is never too soon to do so and to start planning for your special day.

 

You will need to purchase a Marriage License at least 24 hours before the ceremony. This license is valid for 3 months (90 days). Each of you must apply for the license at the same time.

We are authorized to issue Marriage licenses within and for the province of Manitoba. Cost of purchasing a license is $100.00

If single – you have to be 18 years of age or older and/or have written permission from your parents or guardians.

 

The following is acceptable documentation or proof of age:

  • Birth Certificate
  • Passport of US passport card
  • Citizenship Certificate (Canadian or United States)
  • Canada Immigration Documents
  • Canadian Armed Forces identification card
  • Government of Canada Indian Status Card
  • Drivers License (Photo) with one of the following:
    • Manitoba Health card
    • Senior citizen card/old age security card
    • Change of name certificate
    • Social insurance card
  • If divorced please provide one of the following:
    • Divorce certificate
    • Decree Absolute
  • If widowed please provide one of the following:
    • Death certificate
    • Funeral home statement of death
    • Obituary notice from newspaper

We offer a complimentary initial  consultation to discussion your expectations for your wedding ceremony; the services we provide and ultimately determine if we are a “good fit” to officiate your wedding ceremony.

 

A non-refundable deposit of $200.00 is due immediately in order to secure your desired date and time for your ceremony.  The balance is due at least one week in advance of your actual ceremony, unless otherwise negotiated and mutually agreeable.

 

We would start with a more in-depth planning meeting and continue meeting well in advance of your wedding day in order to become familiar with your “love story” and to work on drafting your customized wedding script with you  with edits and revisions made as required until you feel comfortable that your wedding ceremony reflects you as a couple and will be memorable for you and your guests for many years to come.

 

Following the ceremony, I complete the Marriage License for you and send it to the Department of Vital Statistics. Both parties, witnesses and I must all sign the Marriage License following the ceremony

No. If you wish to obtain a Marriage Certificate you must apply for it on your own. The application form is included in the Marriage License package. I am only responsible for mailing your completed Marriage License to the Department of Vital Statistics following your ceremony.

For those couples who wish to be legally married in Manitoba before heading to a destination wedding.

This is a great idea for couples as all of the legal documentation will be taken care of before the departure and the BIG wedding day. Couples would be legally married in Manitoba thereby reducing substantial legal documentation, cost, time & stress of being married outside the country.

For those couples who wish to legalize their union and/or have a small, intimate elopement with a larger celebration at a later date.

Since this is not a storefront business, arrangements will be made to meet in a public place, convenient to both parties.


Rehearsal Fee – $175

Judy will run the rehearsal to ensure the entire bridal party and family members are both confident and ready for the wedding ceremony. Every detail of the wedding ceremony as well as the processional and recessional are covered.


Personalized Wedding Ceremony Writing – $175

Judy would be happy to help you write a personalized wedding ceremony should you have a friend or family member licensed to officiate your wedding ceremony.

  • One in-person consultation meeting
  • Three rounds of edits (Via email or phone) to finalize the ceremony


Travel Costs – $0.60/km

If your wedding is beyond the Perimeter travel costs to the venue and return are calculated at the rate of $0.60 cents per kilometer.
